Sitting Services- The Sugar Shack’s Gilded Glider Specialty Shoppe, in conjunction with Glider Grove, is proud to offer sitting services for local glider owners. Your sugar gliders can be cared for in your own home or they are welcome to stay with us in our own Glider Grove. Pricing is as follows: In Home Sitting: $20 per day for a single sugar glider or 1 glider pair within 10 miles $25 per day for a single sugar glider or 1 glider pair within 20 miles add $10 per day for each additional single sugar glider or glider pair At The Grove: $20 per day for a single sugar glider or 1 glider pair add $15 per day for each additional single sugar glider or glider pair The
following conditions apply: Suggie Sitting services are available by advance reservation only! In Home sitting services are available to glider owners within a local 20-mile radius only. Space is limited. We require a veterinary checkup & a veterinarian’s statement attesting to your sugar glider’s good health to be completed within the 7 days prior to every Glider Grove stay. Owners must provide transportation for their sugar gliders both to and from The Sugar Shack for their Glider Grove stay.
Scenting
Program-
The Sugar Shack’s Gilded Glider Specialty Shoppe, on behalf of Glider Grove, gladly offers all of Glider Grove’s adopting parents a complementary scenting program. Since this program is very beneficial and entirely free, we urge all of Glider Grove’s adopting parents to participate. To participate, the adopting parent must mail or turn in an old T-shirt to Glider Grove at least 2 weeks prior to bringing their joey home. The T-shirt should be worn for a minimum of 3-4 nights while sleeping and should be kept in a Ziploc bag. Do not wash the shirt. Do not use cologne or other fragrances while wearing the shirt. This shirt should smell like the adopting parent, that is the goal. Do not use a good shirt, the T-shirt will be cut into small pieces and not returned. The pieces are then placed into the joey’s sleep sack on a daily basis. This process aids the joey by allowing it to become familiar with its adoptive parent’s scent and reduces stress during the transition into its new home. Scenting programs also aid in the bonding process by causing joeys become more relaxed with their adoptive parents. The now familiar scent of their new adoptive parent will be a comfort to the joey in the strange surroundings of its new home and the joey will tend to gravitate toward it. If the adoptive parent responds slowly, in a patient and compassionate manner, the joey’s trust will be gained over a much shorter time period. Many adoptive parents may find it beneficial to have another T-shirt scented and ready for continued use during the first few weeks after arrival. Sugar gliders are exotic animals, not domesticated. Joeys are hand-tamed from a young age and neglect, or other mistreatment, can cause a sugar glider to revert back to a wild state. If a joey is showered with love and treated with kindness, it will bond very tightly with its adoptive parent.
Educational Support-The Sugar Shack is an avid supporter of sugar glider education. Through implementing The Pool of Knowledge portion of our site, we are striving to help everyone learn more about sugar gliders and the responsibilities that follow ownership. The Pool of Knowledge has been compiled to answer almost all of your sugar glider questions, including the latest information on nutrition, health, enrichment, and glider safety. As a service to you, The Sugar Shack’s resident “suggie mama” is always available to tackle any questions that remain unanswered and happily provides continuing support to all of our Glider Grove parents for as long as needed following adoption. The Glided Glider Specialty Shoppe offers ready-made frozen meal portions that serve up to four adult gliders. Each prepackaged meal contains the Sugar Glider Exotic Diet base mix, one of four different protein sources, and assorted fruits and vegetables. Just thaw, add The Pet Glider Multivitamin, and serve! The Pet Glider Multivitamin (sold separately) works in conjunction with this well-rounded diet to supply your sugar glider with the finest nutrition available. You can increase the protein ratio of this diet by supplementing with mealworms (sold separately). The average sugar glider should consume roughly 75 mealworms per week, in addition to its regular diet. Don’t forget the diet’s staple food for when your sugar gilder wakes with the munchies!
